Union of Roots
Union of Roots is a rainbow-rooted oak set against a deep black background, created in reflection of the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The oak — a symbol of New Orleans — stands resilient, its roots glowing with color to honor the city’s strength, diversity, and unity.
Created in collaboration with the New Orleans Yoga Festival, this work is also inspired by the teachings of yoga. The title reflects the union of body, breath, and spirit — just as New Orleans unites cultures, histories, and people. Union of Roots is a meditation on resilience, healing, and the beauty that can rise from darkness.
